Choose your interest group

When you register to participate in the bioblitz, you get to join a group that interests you! Volunteer groups will be paired with a local expert in specific fields (like plant ID or birds), who will help to lead the surveys, confirm identifications, and submit data. Read about the different group options below before registering (scroll down for registration link)!

Birding
Help to document different species of birds using both sight and sound! Birding groups will explore the natural areas and parks around the Kellogg Impoundment. Keep in mind when registering for this group that the trails may be muddy, slippery and occasionally steep, particularly in the Milwaukie Presbyterian Church Sanctuary. Please indicate if you would prefer to be in a group surveying Kronberg and Dogwood Park when you register- these trails are relatively flat and generally less muddy.

Accessible Birding
Similar to the birding group, this group will be documenting birds using sight and sound, focusing on birds that are identifiable from paved, wheelchair accessible, pathways around the impoundment such as the Trolley Trail. Please indicate when you register if you have additional accessibility needs to participate so that we can work together to make your participation as easy as possible!

Plant Identification
Help to document different species of native and invasive plants! Plant ID groups will explore the natural areas and parks around the Kellogg Impoundment.

Tracking and Wildlife Signs
Join volunteers from Cascadia Wild in documenting tracks and other signs of wildlife in the natural area surrounding the Kellogg Impoundment! This group will be exploring the Milwaukie Presbyterian Church Sanctuary- depending on recent weather, some of the trails may be muddy, slippery, and occasionally steep.

Macroinvertebrates
Join us in documenting macroinvertebrates in the Kellogg Impoundment. This group will be exploring the edge of the Kellogg Impoundment, accessed via the Milwaukie Presbyterian Church Sanctuary. Keep in mind that some of the trails may be muddy, slippery and occasionally steep. We will provide D-nets and some waders to volunteers interested in collecting samples, but actually getting into the water is not required! Please indicate if you would like to borrow waders when registering.

Amphibians and Reptiles
Help us to document the amphibians and reptiles in the Milwaukie Presbyterian Church Sanctuary! We will be looking under logs, around the edges of the water and sneaking up on sunny spots to see what we can find! Keep in mind when registering for this group that the trails may be muddy, slippery and occasionally steep.

Insects
Join volunteers from the Xerces Society to document interesting insects in the natural areas and parks surrounding the Kellogg Impoundment!
