Kellogg Creek Stewardship Day

We had a great time last weekend with volunteers who came out to help us remove invasive English ivy from the Milwaukie Presbyterian Church Sanctuary!

The Milwaukie Presbyterian Church Sanctuary is a hidden gem located close to downtown Milwaukie and right behind our office. The natural area is home to lots of native plants and wildlife, and is a great spot for bird watching! Unfortunately, there are also some invasive species present, including English ivy, which is what we focused on for our stewardship day. But first, volunteers enjoyed some warm beverages, and pastries from Shoofly Bakery!

Peyton, our Community Engagement Coordinator, talked with volunteers about the Kellogg Creek Restoration and Community Enhancement Project prior to heading outside to remove invasive plants. Volunteers got to learn more about what the plan for the project entails, where we are at now, and how they could get more involved in the future.

Then we headed outside to get our hands dirty! Volunteers worked on developing techniques to streamline the ivy pulling process- including rolling it up in these huge mats.

We were super excited to have folks from the Milwaukie Rotary Club and Johnson Creek Watershed Council, show up to help out with our event! As well as other members of the community interested in helping to improve our watershed habitat and learning about the Kellogg Creek Restoration and Community Enhancement Project. Thanks to everyone who showed up on this chilly morning- we appreciate your hard work and look forward to seeing you at future volunteer events!
